About Us

Several years ago, a group of scientists, educators and business entrepreneurs came together under a philanthropic umbrella to create Labrats, a San Diego based charity, focused on filling the gaps in K-12 student education. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the three-year-old charity was dedicated to teaching after school and weekend science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) courses; conducting specialized tutoring in these areas; and facilitating hands-on labs that provided students and their parents with a unique education experience that aligned with student age bands established by the Next Generation Science Standards.

In early 2020, the pandemic lockdown halted in-person learning and moved students and schools to a virtual learning environment. The transition was challenging for schools and students, moving education from the world of physical classrooms to virtual web based education delivered via a computer or television monitor.

And so BrainSTEMTV.org was born, a virtual education network that delivers a variety of STEAM curriculum and fun activities that are sparking innovation and creativity in K-12 students. A membership provides access to engaging science labs taught by scientists and leading educators.  Members also receive a monthly e-newsletter with scheduling information and other STEAM information and resources culled from best education practices in use around the globe. In addition to STEAM labs, BrainSTEMtv.org will offer selective curriculum for parents and students in categories ranging from family wellness to personal finance.

Scheduling flexibility is a key feature. Labs can be scheduled for delivery around the ever-changing school schedule of virtual or in class learning. Labs can be repeated as often as desired to ensure great retention of these STEAM topics.

BrainSTEMTV.org is creating new ways to deliver STEAM educational opportunities, aligned with national education standards and developed by our own experienced educators and scientists, directly into your home. We are assisting parents with one of their most important roles, the education of their children. We are helping students get what they need to qualify for the challenges of the future.

Who We Are

We are a cadre of scientist-educators dedicated to raising the bar of K-12 science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education. Our public schools can be augmented to deliver what it takes to create the next generation of science leaders. We created Labrats to nurture the inner spirit of discovery of our young people, providing robust, dynamic and fun programming that has continued to grow each academic year. Using the Next Generation Science Standards as our guiding curriculum compass, through after school, weekend and summer programming Labrats has brought thousands of hours of mind opening, hands on fun STEAM education opportunities for youth in the greater San Diego area.

Then came the Covid-19 pandemic. Under the banner of necessity is the mother of invention, we created BrainSTEMTV.org, a subscription-based, on-line education platform to continue our work. Our scientists are creating and teaching new STEAM education modules. We have moved successfully from the lab and classroom to our subscribers’ computers or television monitors. This was made possible thanks to the Encinitas Charities Consulting Group (ECCG), a non-profit organization (which has been with us from the very start) committed to developing affordable and innovative data-driven and success informed educational programs.

We are assisting parents with one of their most important roles, the education of their children. We are helping students get what they need to qualify for the challenges of the future.
